Research Institute for Sustainable Business
The Research Institute for Sustainable Business (RISB) was established at the Faculty of Economics and Administration of Masaryk University in order to intensify cooperation between the involved departments and institutions on the support of scientific activities, transfer of knowledge between the faculty and practice and also the improvement of teaching and studies.
It is thematically defined by the concept of sustainable business, while it understands sustainability in its broader meaning, i.e. the ability to persist over time and resist external shocks.
In its current form, the Institute draws its personnel base mainly from the Department of Corporate Economy and the Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at the Faculty of Economics and Administration of Masaryk University.
1.
Interdisciplinary cooperation of academic staff of the Faculty of Economics and Administration in the field of business economy and management focused mainly on the sustainability of business in both basic and applied research included in grant projects of Masaryk University, the Czech Republic and even in international projects.
3.
Development of cooperation with academic and commercial institutions in the field of corporate economy and management with an emphasis on business sustainability, aiming to project this cooperation into grant and contract-research projects.
2.
Education and gradual involvement of students of all three levels of study in the field of Corporate Economy and Management, and Corporate Informatics in the Institute’s scientific and research activities, with publication outputs mainly in the form of bachelor, master, or even dissertation theses.
4.
Development of cooperation with international academic institutions in the field of corporate economy and management with an emphasis on business sustainability, aiming to project this cooperation into international grant projects.
The research program of the Institute is currently designed as follows:
- Reverse flows, their management and processing, represent an area that seeks to find mechanisms at the corporate and supply-chain levels for an at least partial closure of the material cycle in the economy, aiming to not only improve the environmental profile of businesses but also their economic performance.
- Product quality focuses mainly on the research of factors and quantities (whether external or internal from the business’s point of view) which influence the quality of the product (either positively or negatively) and which are reflected in the business’s performance.
- Customer satisfaction focuses mainly on the research of factors and quantities that influence the customer’s satisfaction (whether positively or negatively) and which are reflected in product quality and, in particular, the business’s performance (whether directly or indirectly and positively or negatively).
- Knowledge management responds to the fact that although businesses succeed in effective data and information management thanks to integrated information systems, the creation, application and preservation of knowledge in organizations is a more demanding task, which has a major impact on competitiveness of businesses and their economic performance.
- Operational efficiency that contributes to both economic and environmental sustainability.
- Business’s performance, which is primarily about defining and subsequently measuring a company’s performance (whether quantitative or qualitative) with respect to the above mentioned problem areas.
